Watch Matthew McConaughey uncomfortably talk about race
Why I love this: Matthew McConaughey is arguably a super cool cat. He’s always chill. He always seems like he’s the coolest dude in the room. Not in this video. You can FEEL McConaughey’s uncomfortableness - which is the point.
Now is the time for white folks to be uncomfortable. To have uncomfortable conversations. If you haven’t felt uncomfortable yet, keep digging.
NASCAR banning the confederate flag
Wow! To be honest, I never thought I’d see the day.
White Women celebrities handing over their platforms to Black Women
A new social campaign called #ShareTheMicNow has 46 black women, some more known than others, take over the Instagram accounts of 46 famous white women for the day so that black female voices could be better heard. The event began at 1 pm EST with groups beginning at different points of the day.
I think this is a SUPER SMART idea that will let MASSIVE audiences hear stories & experiences from black women.
Bon Appétit’s incredibly honest apology
Our mastheads have been far too white for far too long.
Black staffers have been saddled with contributing racial education to our staffs and appearing in editorial and promotional photo shoots to make our brands seem more diverse. We haven’t properly learned from or taken ownership of our mistakes. But things are going to change.
Easily the most honest & introspective brand response I’ve seen. Well, Ben & Jerry’s was next level too.
